About Me:
My name is Marta Walsh and I’m the founder of www.talkingmakeup.com I was born in Former Soviet Georgia, moved to Israel when I was 4 months old and then moved to New York City in my late teens. I didn’t begin my career in the beauty industry. My very Jewish parents only encouraged practical subjects like accounting or medicine. Following their advice, I went to New York University STERN School of Business and studied Finance and Marketing. I even worked as an assistant to a Market Maker on Wall Street.
I’ve always loved makeup, beauty, and glamour as long as I remember myself. Sephora was my playground and Elle, Vogue and Cosmopolitan magazines were my bibles. My bathroom in my old West Village flat in NYC while working in Finance was full of beauty products and I was often described by best friends as a product junkie. I always wanted to try every product out there. I then moved to Cheltenham England. I used to go to the local department stores in the UK like House of Fraser and Space NK and literally go from counter to counter and check what new products are out. Feel them and touch them, sometimes even sniff them. I would then go home to my lap top and search for the products I became obsessed with online and read about them. I was looking for reasons for why I should or shouldn’t buy that product. My husband saw what I was doing so one day he suggested I should write a blog. I looked at him and asked: “What’s a blog?” Talking Makeup was born.
I have never been to a beauty school and I’m NOT a makeup artist. In fact I consider myself a total amateur, even today. I just love makeup (like you, I hope). Therefore, Talking Makeup is never about telling you what to do or how to apply your own makeup. It’s all about beauty news, celebrity beauty news, my own way of applying makeup, expert tips, celebrity beauty secrets and interviews so you can make up your own decision on whether you like the products, looks or techniques you’ve read about. There are no rules. I really like what Nicolas Degennes, Givenchy’s Artistic Director and who I met in NYC, once said: “makeup is freedom…Freedom to become whoever you want to be in that moment…to experiment…to create..to express…”
My greatest success so far was being able to interview many celebrities about their beauty and style secrets. I enjoy interviews so it’s a dream come true and I would love to do more of it. I’m also fortunate to meet fabulous industry people in the beauty PR world, and being able to attend New York Fashion Week and other fun fashion and beauty events. I was featured in Glamour.com, UK’s the Telegraph: Telegraph.co.uk, and Cosmopolitan Hong Kong.
Growing up in Israel and English as my second language I could never imagine being able to write in English for a beauty magazine, so for me it’s a huge achievement and realizing I can do anything I want in life. There are no limits!
I would love to continuously increase my traffic or readership and truly become the best in beauty blogging. I also can see myself creating my own makeup line. I’m all about shimmer, sparkle ,and flawless skin. And I also would love to have my own interview show where I interview celebrities about beauty secrets, life, and movies: something like: “Style & Beauty Interviews With Marta Walsh“. Stay tuned!
I currently live in sunny and beautiful Scottsdale Arizona. LOVE it here. WOW factor:)
